The Different Types of Websites

The internet has been flooded with a large number of websites such that if you want something , you just need to type it in the search engines and you will find thousands of information related to your search term.Different websites cater for different needs. Some of them are information websites, commercial or rather e-commerce, health , technology , entertainment and many more niches. With the advent of internet marketing, making money from websites is now a profitable business.

Having  a personal website has become a necessity in this day and age. How about a business website? This is a must have. Classifying them is almost impossible but we can have a look at the major types.

  • Personal Websites

These are the most cost friendly websites compared to the other types. They are meant for individuals who want to put up a profile of what they do or rather what they are mostly interested in.  There is nothing much in these kind of websites other than personal information , interests/ services and maybe contact information.  The main purpose of these kind of websites is to establish your own brand. These is where your potential clientele or audience will have a look at your portfolio before they engage business with you.

  • Corporate Websites

This is what we commonly refer to as business websites. The major  trait is that , they provide information about the company to the users. Also included are their contacts, the location, email , phone numbers as opposed to transacting business online ( which most of the time do not require these details). These kind of websites are essential for corporate companies that intend to use it as a marketing tool.

  • Flash Websites

These are websites that are so advanced in graphics rather than text. It has been established that people can relate better to the graphical concepts like watching a video than to plain text. Such websites are great tools for marketing especially because streaming has become everyone best activity. Examples of these websites include : Youtube.

  • E-commerce Websites

As the name suggests, these are websites that facilitate online transactions. The greatest advantage of such is that the users can shop at the comfort of their homes or offices. Someone doesn’t need to know the location of the store. In fact most of these kind of businesses do not spend money on a physical store. With the available payment systems such as paypal , google pay , 2checkout , credit cards , mpesa , yu cash , zap e.t.c the whole process has become easier for everyone around the world.

  • Social Media Websites

For one reason or the other, I believe everyone has signed up to one or more social media sites. These sites are the the most visited and have millions of active subscribers. Some top examples include facebook, twitter and linkedin. The main purpose is socializing and catching up though some of them include networking functionality for both personal and business use.

  • Photo-sharing websites

More like the above type, these are used for uploading amazing photos and sharing them with friends or with the world at large. Most of these sites are free such that anyone can register and proceed to upload their memorable moments with friends and family. On the other hand, some of these sites have been commercialized such that, the photos are not necessarily free of charge. These kind of sites are mainly useful for people who want professional photos for magazines and websites.

  • Blogs

Blogging has become like a lifestyle. That is exactly what am doing right now. The name blog comes from the  word weblog. A blog can be a standalone website where someone ( the blogger ) communicates directly to users through articles and the users can provide feedback through comments or sharing on social media. On the other hand, it can be a supplement to a main website like it is on this site. Examples of such sites include huffingtonpost

  • News Websites

This sounds like websites owned by the media companies. Is that so? That’s exactly what it is. They are websites that allow everyone all over the world to access the latest news. In fact every magazine now has an online version. Most of these are general and cover all kinds of niches. Some local examples include nation , the standard , capitalfm e.t.c

  • Content Websites

This is an amazing kind. I bet all of us can never do without content websites. They contain information about anything you can think about. If you do not know how to do something, then just search it in one of these websites and you will not miss a way out. It has all the answers and an example of these kind is buzzle or ezine articles.

With these various types of websites, there is no reason why you shouldn’t own one. Having a website puts you at par with your competitors but having a functional and interactive website gives you a competitive edge since it caters for user interaction. This interaction forms a solid relationship between the user and the business. According to studies, these are the people who are more likely to buy your product. Don’t think twice, get on your feet and get a simply fine design today!

  2. Hi Twailer, am surprised that there are people with such pretty names and proud of them so much as to use them. Its quite a pretty name.
I stumbled upon your blog just a half hour ago from one of your customers and Girl, ain’t i impressed? i love the entire design you used on the upeo host technologies website. the dynamic nature of the interface with a fully scrollable post slideshow is impressive. I read this article among all others you have on your site and i value every contribution you have put into it. Now i have your contacts, i would love to sit down some time, over coffee and deliberate on a few business prospects, hoping you are not already out of the business.
I run a similar firm, maybe different approaches. I have bounced onto many other webloggers and webdesigners and none seem real like what you doing so kuddos. Good work on the sites you have designed so far, all the best on future prospects.
